Tottenham fans vexed by starter who lost possession 14x vs Slavia Prague: ‘I’m tired of watching him’

Tottenham supporters were frustrated by Wilson Odobert’s performance in their 3-0 win over Slavia Prague in the Champions League on 9 December.

Spurs rang the changes against Slavia Prague as they continue to battle with a very congested fixture run in December.

Thomas Frank would’ve been delighted with his side’s dominant performance over the visitors as Tottenham legend Son Heung-min was in attendance at the Slavia Prague game.

Whilst the Lilywhites secured a huge set of three points in Europe, fans were far from impressed by Odobert‘s wasteful display.

Wilson Odobert lets himself down in rare start for Tottenham

The announcement of the starting XI to play the Czech outfit saw the surprise appearance of the Frenchman after numerous games on the bench of late.

The ex-Burnley man has only started four of Spurs’ 15 Premier League matches, but has seen more action in Europe with four starts from five this season.

However, the 21-year-old was not on form down the left-hand side with the likes of Xavi Simons continuing to flourish for Tottenham.

The number 28 was wasteful in front of goal, missing one big chance in the 52nd minute as well as losing the ball on 14 occasions.

Similarly, Odobert only completed one of his four dribbles during 76 minutes as he was unable to truly penetrate the Slavia Prague rearguard.

Frank will likely be unimpressed by his defensive application as well, as the France Under-21 winger completed just two of his nine duels during the match.

Let down once again by Odobert, fans vented their frustrations over the attacker, with one supporter saying: “Odobert all style no substance. Yet another winger that ultimately offers very little.” with another adding: “I’m tired of watching Odobert be a cut back merchant with zero finishing ability.”

The below-par display from the 21-year-old encapsulates what has been a frustrating spell in north London.

Often, Odobert has show glimpses of promise, yet ultimately fails to find an end product to his game.

The Frenchman joins the likes of Brennan Johnson and Mathys Tel who have all struggled to have a lasting impact at Spurs as Frank continues to search for a competent wideman.

Of the three, greater hope may be placed in the ex-Bayern Munich man with the general consensus around the club being that he could go far if things go his way.

Moreover, with Tel being called up to the Champions League squad in place of Dominic Solanke after initially being omitted at the start of the season, perhaps there is a strong belief the number 11 could become a more consistent figure in the starting XI.
