Tottenham fans will lose their minds over January transfer news

Tottenham fans must be fuming with the latest news that Yves Bissouma could be set to sign a contract extension despite not playing so far this season.

Yves Bissouma has been outcasted at Tottenham this season due to a fallout with Thomas Frank over his conduct during the summer and subsequent injury concerns.

He joined the club from Brighton for £25million in 2022, but could soon leave for nothing as his contract edges closer to expiring at the end of this campaign.

Football Insider have revealed that West Ham and Everton are tracking Bissouma ahead of January, but it remains unclear if he will have any concrete suitors considering his lack of match fitness.

The Mali international is still yet to play under Frank this season, but is soon set to go to the African Cup of Nations with his country, with Spurs now considering a controversial move to cover their backs ahead of next summer.

Tottenham likely to trigger Bissouma’s one-year contract extension

According to a new report from The Sun’s Tom Barclay, Tottenham are set to extend Bissouma’s contract by another year to the summer of 2027 if they fail to sell him next month.

The 29-year-old has a one-year extension option inserted into his current deal, and the move would only be for Spurs to protect his value rather than to offer him a path back into Frank’s squad.

Bissouma has been linked with a move to the Super Lig in recent months, and interest from Turkish clubs is expected to be revived when the winter transfer window opens, according to the report.

Fulham are also believed to be interested in Bissouma ahead of the January window as Marco Silva aims to bolster his midfield options.

His lack of game-time has seen him get into trouble away from the pitch recently, with Frank confirming last week that the club were “dealing” with the matter after a video circulated on social media of the 29-year-old allegedly inhaling nitrous oxide.

Tottenham fans will not be happy at Bissouma latest

This recent disciplinary matter is just another in a long line of issues that Bissouma has faced in the last 18 months at Tottenham, and it is clear that he will never play for the club again as a result.

He simply needs to be sold to any interested team in January so all parties can swiftly move on from this turbulent chapter of his career.

Handing him a new one-year deal will infuriate the majority of Tottenham fans, who will want Bissouma off their books for good as quickly as possible next month.

He is not adding anything to their squad while he trains alone, and the prospect of him being contracted to the club for potentially another year-and-a-half makes little sense with all things considered.

The fee that Tottenham are likely to receive for a player who will be 30-years-old next summer, with minimal match fitness and sharpness, is surely not worth holding out for over simply letting him leave for nothing next June.

Fans are likely set to grow tired of the situation and it could escalate into something bigger if the club do extend Bissouma’s deal by another year, thus it seems a strange step for them to take all to save a relatively small amount of money.
