Tottenham first teamer reveals worry for this season
By Harvey Byrne
Tottenham first teamer Eric Dier has revealed he was worried about not scoring this season following his strike against Burnley on Saturday.
The 23-year-old has been a regular in the Spurs line-up this season, playing in 27 of the club’s 29 league matches.
However, he is usually deployed as a centre-back, while when he does move up the pitch it is only into a defensive midfield role.
The former Sporting Libson man is not known for his goals and has netted just seven times in 125 appearances for Tottenham in total.
But, Dier shared after his strike at the weekend that he was growing “more and more worried” by his lack of goals.
“I’m really happy to have scored,” told Dier, as quoted by the official Tottenham website.
“I was getting more and more worried that I wasn’t going to get a goal this season so to score a scruffy one is great to get up and running for the season.”
Dier has been a part of the Tottenham side since 2014 after joining for just £4million from Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon.
He has since become a regular for club and country and with four years still remaining on his current contract many will be hoping he continues to develop.
Dier is expected to line-up once more as Spurs face Swansea at the Liberty Stadium next on Wednesday and they will be keen to pick up all three points in an attempt to close the gap on league leaders Chelsea.
In other Tottenham news, Vincent Janssen has responded as to whether he’ll be at the club next season.
