Sources: Tottenham submitting Anthony Gordon bid as preliminary talks held

Tottenham are submitting a bid for Everton sensation Anthony Gordon as they line up a marquee late-window signing, sources have told Football Insider.

The London giants are readying a formal move for the forward, 21, after tracking him closely all summer.

Tottenham have held preliminary talks and received encouragement that Gordon is keen to join them ahead of the transfer cut-off next week.

Chelsea have already submitted two bids for Gordon of £40million and £45m, the first of which was revealed by Football Insider on 14 August.

The west Londoners could return with a new offer, but Spurs are trying to trump their capital rivals to the Merseysiders’ signature.

It is believed Everton will accept £50m for Gordon, although they would prefer a cash bid to a swap or part-exchange deal.

He has been identified by Spurs as a top talent with the potential to develop and improve under Antonio Conte and his coaching staff.

Everton’s resolve to keep hold of Gordon is now set for its most severe test as Spurs become the third club to bid for the wide forward this summer after offers from Newcastle and Chelsea were knocked back.

The Blues have already lost Richarlison to Tottenham this summer and have been forced to play Gordon as an emergency striker following Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s serious knee injury that will rule him out until at least October and potentially longer.

Gordon has three years left on his contract at Goodison Park after signing a five-year deal in 2020.
