‘Tottenham have agreed new deal after termination’ – boardroom source

Tottenham are continuing to perform well from a financial perspective despite their struggles on the pitch this season.

Spurs have endured a challenging campaign as they currently sit 14th in the Premier League table after 29 matches.

Ange Postecoglou has faced sack pressure at Tottenham, but his side could still deliver the club’s first trophy in 17 years after making it through to the quarter-finals of the Europa League, where they will face Eintracht Frankfurt next month.

In terms of matters off the pitch, Daniel Levy held talks with INEOS last month after it was revealed the petrochemicals company wanted to end its sponsorship with the club.

INEOS, which is spearheaded by Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, became the north London giants’ official hand sanitiser and 4×4 vehicle partners in 2019.

The partnership was later expanded in 2022, with the INEOS brand displayed in the dugout of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Mail reported on 16 March the two parties have now reached a pay-off agreement to end the deal early, with the Premier League side set to be paid millions.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – revealed Spurs likely lined up a replacement sponsor before the INEOS deal was terminated.

The company’s logo was no longer visible inside Tottenham’s stadium during their Europa League victory over AZ Alkmaar on 13 March.

Tottenham clause revealed after INEOS termination

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness revealed there would have been a break clause in the INEOS deal.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think Spurs may actually have already had a replacement sponsor in that category already done before they allowed INEOS to break the sponsorship deal.

“There would have been a break clause.

“I think it was in the millions in terms of INEOS getting out of there.

“I think Spurs would have played their cards well.

“We all know that Daniel Levy’s strength is his commercial acumen and I do think the commercial team at Spurs would have had a 4×4 category replacement ready to go.

“The rumours are that there is a discussion that was already active, so it’s good for Spurs if they get money from the break clause and a new sponsor in place.”
