Finance guru: Tottenham have ‘big advantage’ over rivals after £50m news
Tottenham will have a “big advantage” over their rivals outside the Premier League under Uefa’s new spending limits.
That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the new revenue-based system,
Clubs competing in Uefa competition are currently permitted to lose no more than £25million over a three-year period.

That has been doubled to £50m alongside the stipulation that clubs’ outlay on transfers, wages and agents must not exceed 70 per cent of turnover.
Per The Times yesterday (28 March), the proposal has received the backing of the powerful European Club Association, of which Spurs are a member.
The Londoners lost £80m in the Covid-hit 2020-21 financial year.
But Plumley explains that the Premier League’s enormous TV deal will give them the edge over their European rivals under Uefa’s new curbs.
“The threshold is not a big issue for English clubs,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“Spurs are at a big advantage to other clubs in European competitions.
“This is going to be a Uefa directive first and foremost, i.e Champions League, Europa League, Conference League.
“But as we saw with the previous version of FFP, domestic leagues introduce their own principles following off the back of it.
“You would assume that the Premier League will fall in line. That might take few years.”
“The English clubs are better placed to take advantage because they earn more from the TV deal. If you’re earning more, you’re spending more.”

Spurs are currently 5th in the Premier League standings.
