Finance guru: Tottenham have just banked £15m windfall – ‘this is a superb deal’

Tottenham have likely pocketed an eight-figure fee from their latest INEOS sponsorship as they continue their huge commercial growth.

That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Spurs’ recent deal with the global chemical company.

Spurs made an official club announcement last Wednesday (21 December) that they had agreed a multi-year deal with INEOS Grenadier as its Official 4×4 Vehicle Partner.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is making more unpopular decisions at Man United

INEOS are a British multinational chemicals company that has spanned out into a number of sporting projects as well as the creation of their own automotive company.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe – who is the INEOS chairman – was spotted at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during their arranged friendly against Nice in the mid-season break according to the Daily Mail.

Plumley believes the sponsorship deal is the latest example of Tottenham’s huge commercial growth since the construction of their new stadium and believes the agreement will pocket them a handy eight-figure fee.

“It’s a significant deal and INEOS are in with cycling too so there is a sporting connection there,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“In terms of the deal, it’s not the front-of-shirt sponsor, which tends to be the biggest. Spurs’ one with AIA is worth about £40million, so you can work down from there and assume it’s not as big as that.

“Depending on the terms of the deal if they’ve got around £10-15m for that then it’s a good value deal. Working off the shirt sponsor that’s the ballpark.

“So it’ll be a decent deal and the connection with an automotive company is good, they’re still seen as a blue-chip sponsor in sport and obviously you have the INEOS connection to cycling too which is a nice tie-in.

“It also shows the success that Spurs have had commercially.

“It’s almost like a deal that’s branded for the winter and there are some neat little things clubs are doing in that space so overall it’s looking like a superb deal for Spurs.”
