Tottenham have last-gasp transfer bid accepted as they successfully hijack deal

Tottenham are set to secure upcoming Hearts star James Wilson on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.

Spurs have had an active transfer window to date as they look to recover what has been a dreadful season so far.

Players such as Conor Gallagher have joined Tottenham, with the midfielder putting in a good display on Sunday as they drew 2-2 with Man City.

Now, Thomas Frank is looking towards the future, with Wilson set to join the North London club after Spurs beat Arsenal to his signature.

Tottenham beat Arsenal to Hearts’ James Wilson

On Monday, it was confirmed that Arsenal were in talks to sign Wilson, with Celtic also interested.

The 18-year-old striker is regarded as one of Scotland’s most promising players and has already received one cap for the National Team.

Now, the Daily Record on 2 February has confirmed that Spurs are set to beat both Arsenal and Celtic to the deal.

The youngster is set to travel to London on Monday afternoon to put pen to paper for a loan deal until the end of the season.

Tottenham will also have the option to buy Wilson at the end of the campaign, with Frank set to pay Hearts a significant initial loan fee.

This allowed Spurs to jump in front of Arsenal in the queue, with the Gunners putting the talks on hold for 24 hours.

How good is Wilson?

While Wilson has struggled for game time this season, he is no doubt a promising young talent.

The youngster was lethal last season, converting four times from just eight shots.

However, this season, he has struggled for regular game time, only starting once in the Scottish Premiership, with manager Derek McInnes opting to stick with his main attacking options as they push for a shock title.

Nevertheless, he has still found the back of the net twice this campaign, scoring past both Dunfermline and Hamilton in the Premier Sports Cup at the start of the season.

Now, Wilson will be looking to showcase his talents in England as he looks to make the next step in his career.

It remains to be seen if Frank will give the youngster any first-team chances before the end of the season or if he will stay in the academy.
