Kieran Maguire: Tottenham have Fabio Paratici ‘insurance’ option as legal trial looms

Tottenham are “well insured” against reputational or PR damage that could stem from Fabio Paratici’s history at Juventus.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the financial doping scandal unfolding in Turn.

Paratici joined Spurs in June last year after over a decade as a director at Juventus, where it has since emerged that dubious accounting practices were commonplace.

The club, whose board recently resigned en masse after posting record financial losses, stands accused of artificially inflating transfer fees as part of a long-running capital gains scheme.

As relayed by the Daily Mail last Thursday (1 December), reports in Italy now claim that Paratici is one of 11 individuals who will be put forward for trial.

Federico Cherubini, Paratici’s successor at Juve, has also accused him of wasting £600m of shareholder cash through reckless footballing decisions.

But Maguire insists that Spurs will not be concerned about any collateral damage from the scandal.

“Spurs are one stepped removed in terms of Paratici and the fallout from Juventus,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“The club will feel it is relatively well insured from any damage to the club from an operational point of view.

“They have that firewall. He is not seen by commercial partners and sponsors as being one the key figures at the club.

I’m therefore sure that Daniel Levy will be able to sleep soundly at night.”
