Tottenham have signed perfect Emerson Royal replacement – ‘he could be the guy,’ says expert

Alan Hutton has tipped Emerson Royal to leave Tottenham this month – as they have already signed the ideal replacement.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs right-back insisted summer signing Djed Spence “could be the guy” for Antonio Conte’s side.

On 31 December, Football Insider revealed that the Lilywhites are prepared to sell Emerson this month following a training ground bust-up.

The 23-year-old has fallen out of favour with the club after being involved in a training ground disagreement with a member of the first-team coaching staff.

Emerson joined the London club from Barcelona in the summer of 2021 and his current deal runs until 2026.

Spence has had a difficult start to life at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium after joining from Middlesbrough in the summer.

The 22-year-old has made four substitute appearances for Spurs for a total of just five minutes of first team football.

Hutton thinks Spence could be the perfect alternative to Emerson.

Antonio Conte has come out and said he wants a right-sided wing-back so somebody has to leave,” he told Football Insider.

Emerson Royal for me has just not worked. I think you do know what you are going to get with Doherty.

I think Spence is unfortunate because I really think he could be the guy. I think he has got all the attributes to push forward.

I think if they are looking at somebody to come in as well, somebody has to go. You can’t have four, that is just silly. So you would like to think that one would leave.

Emerson Royal for me has just not worked. There has been a lot of money spent. I think he is poor defensively and going forward he has not really added too much. So I would not be surprised.
