Tottenham ‘haven’t given up on signing Marc Guehi’ after Sky reveal

Tottenham are set to reignite their interest in Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi in the summer window, according to the club’s former scout.

Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and also worked as the chief scout at Man United and Blackburn, exclusively told Football Insider that the club have not given up their pursuit of the 24-year-old.

This comes after Sky reported the Eagles rejected a £70million offer on deadline day with limited time left in the window, after losing Trevoh Chalobah to Chelsea and Chadi Riad to a serious injury.

Football Insider revealed on 16 January that Palace would stand their ground in terms of their demands and were reluctant to see their captain leave mid-season.

However, he is expected to become available in the summer when circumstances at Selhurst Park will allow them to better prepare for his departure.

Tottenham, meanwhile, remain interested in signing a new centre-back despite the signing of Kevin Danso, whose loan agreement contained a £20.9million obligation to buy.

Tottenham backed to make new Marc Guehi offer after late twist

Guehi would represent a different option to Danso, and would likely slot straight into the starting XI in Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, explained that the centre-back would be an excellent option for Spurs as they look to strengthen at the back.

I expect they’ll revisit that offer in the summer, they won’t give up,” he told Football Insider.

“Guehi is a wanted man, Newcastle wanted him last summer and now Tottenham are after him.

“Tottenham need a centre-back and he’s the ideal option there.

“He’s as stable as there is at the back, he’s a regular starter for England now, and he can go under the radar at time at Crystal Palace.

“He plays at a solid level every week and is consistently impressive, so a few clubs have been looking at him.

“Palace rejected their offer not because of the fee but because of the timing of it, which I understand completely, it’s a perfectly reasonable stance for them to take.

“But in the summer, that could change, and I think Tottenham will come back in with a new offer.”
