Tottenham hit by £20m+ crushing blow – Kieran Maguire
Tottenham will be “frustrated” at missing out on Champions League qualification as they would have generated over £20million in ticket sales alone.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that Spurs would make around £5million per matchday in the Champions League.
Following their 2-0 defeat to Manchester City last week, it is now impossible for Ange Postecoglou’s side to finish inside the Premier League top four.
Spurs are now set to compete in the Europa League next season and miss out on the lucrative prize money on offer in the newly-formatted Champions League.
Under the new format, teams in the Champions League are guaranteed to play a minimum of four home matches in the competition.
Maguire explained that Tottenham would generate £20million in matchday income alone if they were in the Champions League before accounting for sponsorship bonuses and prize money.
Tottenham have missed out on £20m+ Champions League payout
“Spurs will be very frustrated at not finishing in the top four and qualifying for the Champions League,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“With the stadium in its current state, they would have generated £5 million per match with the club able to charge full prices for home fixtures.

“On top of that, they would have had the prize money available in the Champions League and Uefa are very bullish about the level of commercial sponsorship available.
“Having said that, Tottenham will still do reasonably well on a Thursday night – there are some spectacular teams who do play in the Europa League.“
