Tottenham idol ‘amazed’ by Ryan Sessegnon after ‘huge’ update – ‘people forget’
Paul Robinson has urged Tottenham to agree a contract extension with Ryan Sessegnon.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-White Hart Lane number one claimed “people forget how young” the 21-year-old defender is.
Sessegnon has three years remaining on his current contract in north London.
A Spurs source told Football Insider (29 April) that the club have opened talks with the wing-back over a new deal.
It is understood that Antonio Conte believes Sessegnon is a “huge” talent and he is said to have made that clear to Spurs hierarchy.
Sessegnon is enjoying his best season in a Tottenham shirt and is beginning to justify the £25million Spurs paid to Fulham for him in 2019.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Sessegnon’s situation, Robinson said: “People forget how young he is.
“The career he has had at his age is amazing.
“For Spurs to tie him down to a long contract now is the right thing to do.
“He has been a bit-part player this season because of the injuries. But I think there is potential there for him. Conte likes to play with wing-backs which suits Sessegnon’s game.
“I think he could become a mainstay in the side.”

Sessegnon has made 18 appearances across all competitions in the 2021-22 campaign.
The left wing-back spent last season on loan at Hoffenheim where he contributed two goals and three assists in 29 appearances.
