Tottenham idol makes ‘huge’ Cristian Romero claim after ‘secret’ revealed
Paul Robinson has claimed Eric Dier’s ability to speak Spanish “is a huge bonus” for Cristian Romero at Tottenham.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-White Hart Lane number one suggested common language is the “secret“ to the duo’s partnership at the back.
Dier and Romero have been two of Tottenham’s most consistent performers this season.
In an interview with The Athletic (9 April), Romero revealed Dier has been “instrumental“ since he joined in August.
He added that his English teammate’s ability to communicate in Spanish “really helps“ their understanding on the pitch.
When asked for his reaction to the news, Robinson told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs: “It is tough when you can’t communicate with your teammates.
“Football is a globally spoken language but when you need to communicate in a split second it is hard if you don’t speak the same language.
“It’s a huge bonus for Romero that Eric speaks Spanish. It’s probably the secret to their relationship.
“Eric has had a great season. He has had his critics at times and deservedly so but now he is playing very well. He is a centre-half now, not a midfielder and he looks better for it.
“Dier and Romero have done extremely well this year. As a pair they’re very good.”
Speaking to The Athletic, Romero said: “Eric was instrumental when I joined.
“The fact he speaks Spanish really helps with our on-pitch understanding as well.“
