Insider: ‘I know for a fact’ Tottenham board repeatedly told to sign Bowen by top scout before he joined West Ham

Tottenham were repeatedly told to sign Jarrod Bowen before he signed for West Ham.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

On Monday (20 September) The Independent claimed Tottenham are long-term admirers of Bowen and are assessing a move.

The attacker signed for the Hammers in January 2020 from Championship outfit Hull.

He has since made 58 appearances for David Moyes’ side and scored nine goals in all competitions.

It has also been reported by The Standard that Bowen is of interest to England boss Gareth Southgate.

Wenham insists Tottenham were told to sign the 24-year-old by former manager David Pleat on a number of occasions.

“I know for a fact Tottenham were heavily interested in him before West Ham signed him,” Wenham told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“I know David Pleat, who was a consultant scout at the time, recommended him to the Tottenham board numerous times.

“There is no one in league football better than David Pleat, he has an encyclopedic knowledge of the football league like no one else.

“I wish Tottenham had listened to him on more occasions. Bowen would have been a good signing when he left Hull.”

Tottenham are thin on the ground in the attacking areas due to an injury crisis.

Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn are both currently injured and Nuno did not put a timescale on their return during Tuesday’s pre-Wolves press conference.
