Tottenham insider reveals how long Ange Postecoglou is safe from sack

Ange Postecoglou retains the backing of the Tottenham board despite a dismal run of form, according to the club’s former scout.

Mick Brown, who also worked as the chief scout for Man United and Blackburn and remains very well-connected within the game, exclusively told Football Insider that there is an acceptance behind the scenes that an injury crisis has greatly impacted the team.

However, while they are willing to stand by him in the short-term, if there is no upturn in form following the return of key players, the manager will come under serious pressure.

The current speculation over his future comes as Spurs have won just one of their last ten Premier League games and have now dropped to 15th place.

Postecoglou’s side are now closer to the relegation zone than they are to the top half of the table, with eight points separating them from Ipswich while the gap to Fulham has reached nine.

However, 11 significant first-team injuries have led to a crisis situation at Tottenham with the likes of Micky van de Ven, Crisitian Romero, Guglielmo Vicario and Brennan Johnson the biggest misses.

Daniel Levy and the board are said to be accepting of the situation and are willing to allow Postecoglou time for his key players to return.

Brown previously told Football Insider that Levy is unhappy with the manager after his recent comments about incoming transfers this month.

However, the former scout who has worked closely with a number of elite managers including Sir Alex Ferguson and Ron Atkinson, has explained that the manager still has support from the board – but he will need to find results soon.

From what I hear, they’ll stick with him until they get their injuries back,” he told Football Insider.

“The problem is, that could bring issues in itself.

“The perception is you get your injured players back and all of a sudden everything’s back to how it should be and your form starts to pick back up.

“But once you’re in a rut, you’re in a rut. It’s hard to change that mentality.

“I don’t think he’s seriously close to being sacked at the moment, but if things continue the way they have been, he could well be let go.

“They seem to be putting their eggs in the basket of injured players returning, but you lose a couple of games then and you’re still in a lot of trouble.

“I think, as things stand they’re willing to stick by him.

“But if their key players return from injury, they get a couple of new players in, and things still don’t look like improving, then I expect they’ll pull the trigger.”
