James Maddison reacts to Marcus Rashford message ahead of Man United exit

Tottenham midfielder James Maddison has reacted to a message shared by Manchester United exit-bound star Marcus Rashford.

Rashford enjoyed a successful loan spell with Aston Villa last season and is not set to feature for the Red Devils next term.

Ruben Amorim is looking to utilise the summer transfer window to reshape his squad, and the England international is among those headed for the exit door.

Meanwhile, Man United are closing in on Bryan Mbeumo, paving the way for Rashford’s increasingly imminent departure.

After leaving Manchester United in favour of Villa last February, Rashford hit a rich vein of form, notching four goals and five assists in 17 appearances for Unai Emery’s men.

Meanwhile, as the England international pushes for an Old Trafford departure, football finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider that Barcelona could sign Rashford on loan.

Amid the news surrounding his future, Rashford took to Instagram on Wednesday, 25 June, to share holiday photos as he wrote: “The lost files. Summer 25.”

The 27-year-old’s post attracted a like from fellow England international James Maddison.

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown previously told Football Insider that Rashford wanted to join Barcelona permanently, while the winger is now set for a loan move to the Catalonian giants.

But even though the ex-Villa loanee showed his class throughout his spell with the West Midlands side, acclimatising to life with Hansi Flick’s men will prove to be a different challenge altogether.

Barcelona already boast the likes of Lamine Yamal and Raphinha on the wing, who will likely prevent Rashford from enjoying starting 11 opportunities in Spain.

Furthermore, Barca are set to sign Nico Williams, whose presence would only further damage the Englishman’s chances of being handed game time under Flick.

Even though Rashford is a versatile player who can also perform up front, he seems unlikely to displace the prolific Robert Lewandowski from Flick’s starting lineup.

It is clear that the 27-year-old is unhappy at Manchester United, but a move to Barcelona may not prove as fruitful as his previous Villa stint.
