Tottenham star James Maddison reacts to former teammate’s message

James Maddison and Tottenham are vying to achieve success in their first season under new boss Thomas Frank.

As the North Londoners look to establish strong form ahead of their Super Cup clash with Champions League winners PSG on 13 August, Tottenham beat Reading 2-0 in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, 19 July.

Frank’s men are set to face League One outfit Luton Town on Saturday, 26 July, before clashing with local rivals Arsenal on 31 July.

Maddison is yet to feature for Tottenham since their 3-1 win over Bodo/Glimt in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final in May, as the attacking midfielder continues to recover from a knee injury.

Tottenham star Maddison reacts to Matty James’ Wrexham message

While Maddison is vying to help the Europa League winners enjoy a successful Premier League season and Champions League campaign next term, his former Leicester City teammate Matty James is tasked with adjusting to the Championship with Wrexham.

James shared a series of photos on Instagram on Monday, 21 July, captioned: “Pre-season tour done” , which received a like from the Tottenham ace.

Wrexham begin their Championship campaign with a tough trip to freshly relegated Southampton on 9 August.

Maddison is vital for Tottenham

But the 51-year-old has now been handed the tough task of turning Spurs’ domestic fortunes around, after the North London side finished just 17th in the top-flight, while also balancing their Champions League duties.

Frank is working hard in the transfer market, as Tottenham have signed Mohammed Kudus from rivals West Ham, as well as defensive duo Kota Takai and Luka Vuskovic.

But to achieve success with Spurs, the former Brentford boss needs established stars such as Maddison to perform at their best, while he adjusts to his new surroundings.

While Tottenham were inconsistent last season, Maddison held the key to their better showings and was an influential figure in their triumphant Europa League run.

Elsewhere, Spurs have been tipped to sign out-of-favour Manchester United man Alejandro Garnacho in a Tottenham News exclusive.
