Tottenham join the race to sign Manchester United 22-year-old - report
By Dominic Toner
Tottenham are set to rival Everton for the signature of Memphis Depay, according to a report.
The Liverpool Echo claim that Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is interested in signing Manchester United’s 22-year-old attacker in January.
The report details that Everton were in pole position to sign Depay in the January transfer window as they look to replace the injured Yannick Bolasie, but Spurs have entered the race for the winger.
Depay has become a fringe player at Old Trafford this season and manager Jose Mourinho has preferred the likes of Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Juan Mata, Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The attacker has made just eight appearances across all competitions this campaign and his only start came in the EFL Cup third-round.

He has enjoyed a difficult spell with United since his arrival in 2015 and scored just seven goals in his 56 appearances for the Red Devils.
Depay moved to England with a reputation as a goalscorer after netting 50 times in 124 appearances for Dutch club PSV.
He is yet to replicate that form in England, but has shown enough to receive interest from two Premier League clubs chasing European football in Spurs and Everton.
The north London club still have aspirations of the title and Pochettino may think that Depay can help close the 10-point gap to league leaders Chelsea.
Football Insider verdict:
Spurs should try and complete a deal for Depay in January, with the winger yet to show his true capabilities with United. The 22-year-old could benefit from a run of games in the side and has shown in the past that he can be a prolific goalscorer. Spurs are hopeful of challenging for the title this season and can’t rely on Harry Kane for their main source of goals all of the time. Pochetitno’s side need help from their attacking midfielders, with Christian Eriksen, Heung-Min Son and Erik Lamela trying to contribute. Depay could be a great option for Pochettino and would certainly bolster his attacking options at White Hart Lane. He is extremely quick and could prove a smart piece of business come the end of the season.
In other Tottenham transfer news, the club have made a decision in their pursuit of a 24-year-old attacker.
