Tottenham lead race to sign Harry Kane replacement as expert reveals Son plan

Tottenham need to sign a replacement for Harry Kane when the transfer window opens as Richarlison and Son Heung-min will not cut it down the middle.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Paul Robinson revealed that Spurs will be looking to sign a new striker to replace Kane this summer after a season without an out-and-out number nine.

Richarlison and Son have been the preferred options through the middle, but Robinson insists the former has not done enough while the latter is better off the left-hand side.

Football Insider reported that Spurs currently lead the race to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford ahead of West Ham, as he would fit that mould.

It has also been said by sources that Ange Postecoglou will oversee a mass clearout this summer, with Richarlison on that list, to raise money for reinvestment.

Kane’s exit left a glaring hole that Tottenham were never able to completely fill, despite the 17 goals Son has racked up this season.

Robinson assessed what the club would look to do in the transfer market, singling out a centre-forward as one of the most important targets.

Whether they need a number nine or not [will be a decision to make]. They’ve got Richarlison but he’s not done it, he’s not got the figures,” he told Football Insider.

They’ve got wide players who can play as a nine.

Son has done a great job there, he’s scored the goals this season and he’s carried the can, but he’s a much better player on the left-hand side.
