Tottenham legend stunned by Mathys Tel deal
Tottenham are pursuing a deal to sign Bayern Munich teenage sensation Mathys Tel in a potential deal that has left a club legend stunned.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson revealed that he believes the 19-year-old is “an exciting player.”
However, Robinson has also questioned whether Spurs actually need to sign the France Under-21 international due to issues elsewhere in the team.
The versatile forward who can play on either wing or upfront has scored 12 goals and provided six assists in his first 60 Bundesliga games which has attracted plenty of attention from teams around Europe.
However, according to The Independent it is a move to Spurs’ rivals Arsenal that is his preferred choice this month.
Mathys Tel isn’t a necessity at Tottenham Hotspur
“He’s a player that’s, he’s an exciting player,” Robinson told Football Insider.
“You know, he’s another one, 60 league games and he scored 12 goals, it’s not going to be a cheap deal for Spurs to do.
“For me, yeah would I like to see him come into the squad, do I think he’s a good player? Yeah absolutely.
“Do I think he’s a necessity at the moment? No, he’s not, there’s other areas of the squad that need looking at.
“If he comes in alongside others then yeah it’s a good window.

“You get cover in two or three different areas along with Tel then yeah absolutely he’s a good player but listen, I don’t know how the recruitment’s been done in Tottenham at the moment.
“That type of player isn’t going to give the immediate answers to his problems.”
