Tottenham are lining up a bid for Burnley striker Andre Gray as he enters the final year of his contract, according to a report.
The Mail Online reports that Spurs will look to step up their interest in the 25-year-old striker as they look for options to ease Harry Kane’s load.
It had been previously reported by the Daily Express that Mauricio Pochettino had made signing Gray his number one priority this summer.
Burnley had previously refused to sell the powerful striker as they attempted to establish themselves in the Premier League, though Spurs will hope to tempt him this summer.
Gray is under contract with Burnley until June 2018, which means this summer could be the last chance for Burnley to really cash in on their valuable asset.
The chance to move to a team competing for the Premier League and the Champions League would be hugely tempting.
Gray has been in fine form for the Clarets and has netted eight goals and laid on two assists in 27 Premier League appearances this term.
Football Insider verdict
There is no doubt that Gray would be a fine addition to Pochettino’s squad – which is already overflowing with young English talent. The 25-year-old has impressed this season with his play at struggling Burnley and he certainly caught the eye with a superb hat trick v Sunderland in December. However, will Gray really want to move somewhere, where he knows he will be sat on the bench? Spurs’ system allows for one striker up top and there is no way Gray will push Harry Kane out, barring a tremendous loss of form for the 23-year-old. He only needs to ask Vincent Janssen that. So unless Gray is truly confident in his own abilities of making an impact at White Hart Lane, he should opt for a move somewhere where first team football is guaranteed.
