Kieran Maguire: Tottenham lining up stadium expansion amid £48m reveal
Tottenham want to further boost capacity at their stadium in order to take full advantage of “the most lucrative piece of real estate in football.”
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the extraordinary earning power of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The 62,850-seater venue remained closed for the tail end of 2019-20 and almost the entirety of 2020-21 due to the pandemic.

Analysis from The Athletic on Thursday (14 July) shows that Spurs generated just £48.2million in matchday income between 2019 and 2021.
That figure is well below the £81.7m they generated in 2018-19, the campaign which saw the Londoners move to their new home in April.
It also illustrates that Tottenham were the second-hardest hit team in the Premier League on a proportional basis in terms of lost matchday revenue.
Maguire claims that Spurs now want to add even more seats to their stadium in order to regain the losses.
“It illustrates the importance of diversifying revenue,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“It also shows that Spurs have the most lucrative piece of real estate in football in their stadium. They are continuing to increase capacity. It will tick up an extra bit this season.

“A lot of clubs are reconfiguring their stadiums to add an extra row here and there.
“Spurs’ take on matchdays equates to about £1,600 per fan per season. If you get an extra 1,000 fans in, that’s an extra £1.6m per year.”
