Hugo Lloris: Pundit thrilled by ‘brilliant signing’ after Tottenham ‘superstar’ deal agreed

Tottenham have pulled off a “brilliant signing” by tying Hugo Lloris to a new contract this year.

That is according to ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the significance of the longstanding skipper.

Lloris’ future at Spurs was in doubt before he put pen to paper in late January on a new two-and-a-half year contract.

That ties the 35-year-old to the north Londoners until the summer of 2024 and replaces his previous deal, which was due to expire in June.

It also ended speculation about Lloris’ future, with reports in France linking him with a return to his homeland.

Kenny insists Tottenham have done very well to keep hold of a player he regards as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

“I would have been very surprised if Tottenham had let him go,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I don’t know why they would want to, he’s still a very, very good goalkeeper.

“He’s the number one. He plays every week in the Premier League and deservedly so.

“I’m surprised something wasn’t agreed sooner, to be honest, he’s one of the best keepers in the league.

“He’s one of the best players at Tottenham, one of the few superstars along with Son and [Harry] Kane, so extending his contract is a brilliant signing”.

Lloris has made 30 appearances for Spurs this season, starting all 25 of their Premier League matches.
