Tottenham look to have failed to complete second January signing after manager update
Tottenham look set to fail in their latest bid to add a second new addition to their squad in the early stages of the January transfer window.
The Lilywhites suffered yet another frustrating result in midweek as they were beaten 3-2 away at Bournemouth, a defeat that has left them languishing in 14th in the Premier League.
Thomas Frank has been under pressure in North London of late, and former Spurs scout Mick Brown told Football Insider earlier this week that “major changes” could be on the horizon at Tottenham soon.
The Dane will be targeting the January transfer window as a potential turning point for the season if he and the club can get it right, but events elsewhere already appear to be working against them.

Tottenham pursuit of Savinho doomed amid injury update
Tottenham fans are delighted with the arrival of Mason Melia as the club’s first January signing, as he finally joined from Irish outfit St Patrick’s Athletic.
The deal was agreed and confirmed back in February 2025, but the 18-year-old has only just joined up with his new teammates, making him the first addition of the window at Spurs.
They had been hoping to follow that up with the signing of Savinho from Manchester City, but their pursuit of the Brazilian appears destined to be thwarted once again.
Tottenham saw bids knocked back by the Etihad Stadium outfit when they were chasing the winger last summer, and a deal looks to be beyond their reach once again this time around.
Pep Guardiola has now revealed that Savinho is facing a spell of “maybe two months” on the sidelines through injury, according to journalist Jack Gaughan via his X account.
The 21-year-old left the field midway through the draw with Sunderland on New Year’s Day with a quadricep issue, and that now looks set to put paid to any hopes of Tottenham sealing his signing this winter.
Savinho setback to affect Spurs’ Omar Marmoush pursuit
Brown previously told Football Insider at the end of December that Tottenham are considering a move for Omar Marmoush this month, but the possibility of that deal going through may have also hit the rocks with the development on Savinho.
The Egyptian has fallen badly out of favour at the Etihad Stadium, and while Tottenham’s failure to land Savinho could see them focus an increasing amount of their attention on Marmoush, it may also change City’s stance.
Marmoush is a versatile attacking player, and the injury to Savinho will surely reduce the desire to sell from Guardiola and Co., given that they need capable cover in the wide areas.
He has started just two Premier League games all season, but the injury update from the manager could be the perfect catalyst for Marmoush to fight his way back into the team.
From Spurs’ perspective, the injury has potentially scuppered two of their key options for the window, in what has become a very familiar story for them in recent years.
