Tottenham have made an £8million swoop for Mainz midfielder Yunus Malli, Football Insider sources understand.
The north Londoners have told the German club they are willing to pay just below their £10million asking price for the Turkey international.
Malli, 24, has bagged ten goals in 27 league appearances for Mainz this season including a sensational hat-trick against Hoffenheim back in September.
Spurs are already identifying targets for the summer transfer window and a well-placed source has told Football Insider that discussions have already taken place between Malli’s camp and the London club.
Mainz have indicated they are willing to cash in on the versatile star, who can play in central midfield as well as more advanced attacking midfield positions.
Tottenham enquired about the availability of the former Borussia Monchengladbach player during the winter transfer window but a deal could not be concluded.
Malli has featured in every single one of Mainz’s games this season and was an integral part of the side that inflicted Bayern Munich’s first home defeat of the season earlier this month.
With Turkey set to take on England in a friendly international in May, Malli will get the chance to audition for Spurs’ probable Champions League campaign against a number of potential team-mates.
After representing Germany’s age group teams throughout his youth career, Malli switched allegiances to Turkey last November and looks set to be taken to Euro 2016.
