Tottenham make contact over Jonathan David deal – sources

Tottenham have made contact with the representatives of Lille striker Jonathan David as they explore a summer deal, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed Chelsea are also pushing to seal a move for the 24-year-old, who is currently playing for Canada at Copa America.

David has just 12 months left to run on his contract with Ligue 1 side Lille.

As such, the French outfit have told the striker he can leave if his asking price is met by interested clubs this summer.

The prolific forward enjoyed another strong season for Lille last term, hitting 26 goals in 47 appearances across all competitions – starting in 40 of those outings.

He helped Paulo Fonseca’s side finish fourth in the French top flight, but the Portuguese boss has since departed for Italian giants AC Milan.

David, who won Ligue 1 with Lille in the 2020-21 campaign, could be headed to the Premier League after spending four years in France.

The 24-year-old cost a reported £25.5million in 2020 when he left Belgian side KAA Gent.

He has racked up 48 caps for Canada since making his international debut in 2018, scoring 26 goals.
