Tottenham make permanent Timo Werner decision – sources
Tottenham will evaluate Timo Werner’s position at the club at the end of the season, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Spurs have the option to make his loan move permanent for a decent fee.
The 28-year-old joined the North London club on loan from RB Leipzig in January, with Werner appearing 14 times under Ange Postecoglou.
The attacker has registered two goals and three assists, but will miss the rest of the season after suffering a hamstring injury in the recent clash against Arsenal.
Tottenham set Timo Werner transfer deadline
O’Rourke told Football Insider that the forward has not done enough to warrant a permanent move this summer, with Werner not consistent enough on the pitch.
The attacker started off strongly on his return to London, having previously played for Chelsea, but has stuttered in more recent times.
O’Rourke revealed that Werner has now seen his chance of a permanent deal go up in smoke, with Spurs set to look elsewhere this summer.
The North London club’s transfer policy involves looking for younger players under the age of 24, who they can develop and turn into top first-team stars.
O’Rourke added that the club’s summer transfer budget will, however, take a hit if they do not secure a Champions League spot.

That task has been made more difficult given how England will only have four Champions League places next season.
