‘Tottenham make Scott Parker decision after Postecoglou sack latest’

Scott Parker has emerged as a surprise name on the list of targets to replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham, according to the club’s former scout.

Mick Brown, who also worked as the chief scout at Man United and Blackburn and remains very well-connected at his former clubs, exclusively told Football Insider that the 44-year-old has admirers behind the scenes in North London.

His Burnley side’s record of having conceded just 15 goals in 45 Championship games so far this season has caught the eye of several clubs looking at managers.

Former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider Tottenham could take a chance on Parker as he backed him to make the step up.

However, there are concerns about his record managing in the Premier League and other candidates are ahead of him in the pecking order as things stand.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider that Postecoglou will be sacked by Tottenham regardless of what happens between now and the end of the season.

Tottenham eye Scott Parker on long list of managers

Brown told Football Insider on 14 April that Andoni Iraola is the front-runner for Tottenham as Daniel Levy wants to hire a boss with Premier League experience.

Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience working with elite-level managers including the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson for over a decade at Man United, has insisted it is unlikely Parker will become the Tottenham manager this summer.

Scott Parker is one of the names Tottenham have considered,” he told Football Insider.

“They’ve got a long list of managers who could be a good fit for the role.

“Burnley have been the most impressive team this year, for me.

“Therefore the best manager of the year, because of the fantastic season they’ve had, has got to be Scott Parker, so there are going to be admirers of him at a lot of clubs.

“I always say, you can’t win anything if you can’t defend.

“That’s what his side do excellently and what has put him on Tottenham’s radar.

“But I can’t see him becoming their manager this summer, I’m not sure he’s quite ready.

“He’s got an excellent record in the Championship but a poor one in the Premier League, so he’ll need to show what he can do at the top level.

“I think at the moment there are options higher up on their list.”

Marcus Rashford update emerges after Spurs transfer twist

Alongside talk about Postecoglou’s future and potential replacements, Spurs are also preparing for a busy summer to reinvest in their squad.

However, Football Insider revealed that despite their interest, Tottenham will struggle to sign Marcus Rashford on a permanent deal in the upcoming transfer window.

Sources say they would have to qualify for the Champions League to be in with a chance of luring him to North London after his loan spell at Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider that Rashford is not convinced by Tottenham and is also unlikely to take a substantial pay cut which would be required for the move.
