Tottenham manager Antonio Conte ‘wants answers’ after Eric Dier quotes emerge – expert

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte is “looking for answers” after dropping Eric Dier from the starting lineup.

That is the view of former White Hart Lane number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Dier’s form in north London.

Dier was dropped to the bench for Tottenham’s 2-0 loss to Aston Villa on Sunday (1 January).

World Cup winner Cristian Romero replaced the England international.

As quoted by Football.London (30 December), Conte suggested Dier is not 100 per cent “physically” or “mentally.”

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Dier’s form, Robinson said: “He’s not been the same player of late.

“He is nowhere near the form of last season.

“It’s a difficult one because he has proved that he can play at that level. The question is, can he do it over a consistent period of time?

“We must not forget that he played his way back into the England setup. He was in great form.

“He has struggled recently though. Mistakes are creeping into his game.

“At the beginning of the season he was the mainstay of that back three. Now he’s been dropped and the manager is looking for answers.

“He is more than capable of getting back into the team because the defence is struggling. They looked no better when he came out of the team. The truth is, they need a couple of signings at the back.”
