Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that former Barcelona midfielder Xavi “hates him”.
Al Sadd’s senior man claimed on Tuesday that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola wants to bring Dele Alli to the club in the summer.
The 37-year-old, who is currently plying his trade in Qatar, heaped praise on the England international and stated that he is “one of the best in Europe”.
La Liga side Espanyol were once managed by Pochettino, rivals of Barcelona, a club Xavi represented for a 17-year period.
Therefore, there is no surprise that the Argentine has not taken too kindly to the former World Cup winner talking in that manner about one of his players.
“He’s in a period when he loves to talk, he’s in Doha [playing for Al Sadd] and listen, he was Barcelona player, he’s my enemy,” said Pochettino, as quoted by Sky Sports.
“He tried to destroy our focus to win because he hates me because he’s Barcelona – player, fans, you know
“He is working for Manchester City, maybe? He wants to help Guardiola and [Vincent] Kompany.”
Alli was recently named the PFA Young Player of the Year beating the likes of Harry Kane and Leroy Sane to the top prize.
He has had an outstanding season in the Premier League this term, scoring 16 goals from the middle of the park.
His goalscoring records through this campaign have seen the attention on him grow as he is now regarded as one of the top young talents in Europe.
Alli moved to White Hart Lane during the summer of 2015, when Pochettino paid League One side MK Dons £5million for his services.
During his time at the club, he has not disappointed, scoring 30 goals in 90 appearances in all competitions.
