‘Tottenham manager targets will reject job’ as mass first-XI exodus to begin
Ange Postecoglou is set to be replaced by Tottenham this summer despite leading them to a Europa League final against Man United.
Major questions have emerged over the Australian’s suitability for the job with the Lilywhites sitting 16th in the Premier League table.
Meanwhile, The Telegraph have reported (28 April) that Spurs face a tough summer of trading with net transfer debt reaching almost £280million.
The report claims Spurs could be forced to make big sales – with Richarlison, Yves Bissouma and Cristian Romero named as stars potentially heading for the exit door.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed manager targets are likely to reject the job without a major change at the top.
Tottenham takeover deal will avoid awkward manager situation, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted a minority takeover is the “elegant solution” to help Tottenham avoid major sales.
Levy has long been exploring selling a minority stake in Spurs to raise much-needed capital to keep the club competitive.
Wyness insisted Tottenham have already lost “£30million” on their forecast for this season due to their poor performance in the Premier League.
Position | Team | Played | Points | GD |
14 | Everton | 35 | 39 | -7 |
15 | Man United | 35 | 39 | -9 |
16 | Tottenham | 35 | 38 | +6 |
17 | West Ham | 35 | 37 | -19 |
18 | Ipswich Town (R) | 35 | 22 | -41 |
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Now is the time they need the cash injection from selling a minority stake in the club.
“If they don’t do it, they need to sell to buy this summer.
“There’s the added complication of the manager situation and a potential complication if they don’t win the Europa League.
“If they don’t win, they will have missed their forecasts by a long way.
“I’d have expected Spurs to forecast a finish of at least seventh or eighth – and they could now finish as low as 17th.
“That’s about £30million lost straight away.
“If you add that to no Europe, then it’s going to be tight – unless you add a minority owner.
“A new manager coming in will want money to spend, and how do you attract someone when you’re having to sell the squad?
“The elegant solution is to sell a minority stake, and I’m sure Daniel Levy’s great negotiating skills will come through here to get the maximum price he can.”

Rashford to Tottenham update
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (30 April) that Tottenham will find a deal for long-term target Marcus Rashford difficult to do this summer.
The 27-year-old, currently on loan with Aston Villa, is admired at Spurs – who have long been interested in securing his signature.
Sources say Tottenham will need to win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League to have any chance of attracting Rashford to the club.
