Sources: Newcastle United and Tottenham told Piero Hincapie’s price has rocketed by £30m after London talks

Tottenham, Newcastle United and other Premier League clubs will have to pay more than £50million to lure Piero Hincapie this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Bayer Leverkusen star, 21, was the subject of top-level interest in the January window after his stellar World Cup showing for Eduador.

Leverkusen had no intention of letting Hincapie go last month but will face a tougher battle to keep hold of him in the summer even though he signed a 12-month contract extension on Sunday.

Hincapie extended until the summer of 2027 in a move that enhances his market value.

However, he is believed to be keen to play for a top Premier League side and his camp have been busy assessing the market for potential teams.

Football Insider revealed on 16 January that Newcastle and Everton held talks in London that day with the Ecuador international’s representatives.

There has also been attention from Tottenham, who will be in the market for a top young centre-back in the main window.

Hincapie’s value has climbed from £20million late last year and it is believed that Leverkusen will want more than £50m for him in the summer, especially after the new agreement.

The young centre-back, who can also slot in at left-back, is widely regarded as one of the outstanding players of his type in his age group in the world.

He is a regular for Leverkusen and has made 21 Bundesliga and Champions League starts among 23 appearances in all competitions this season.

The 21-year-old has now completed the full 90 minutes of eight of the last nine Leverkusen matches in the Bundesliga.

Overall he has now made 56 appearances for the club in all competitions across two seasons.
