Tottenham news: Agbonlahor lambasts Eric Dier as a ‘myth’ after MOTD 2 claim
The apparent resurgence of Eric Dier at Tottenham is a “myth”, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Spurs’ defence would still have been “bullied” in their last two games even if Dier was starting.
They shipped three against Southampton last week (9 February) before losing 2-0 to Wolves on Sunday (13 February) in the absence of the defender.
According to the Match of the Day 2 on Sunday (13 February), Tottenham have not conceded a goal in the five Premier League games Dier, Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hobjerg have started together this season.
Antonio Conte, as quoted by football.london on Saturday (12 February), “hopes to have him available” for the clash against Man City on Saturday (19 February).
Spurs expert and insider John Wenham told this site yesterday (13 February) the club need the 28-year-old back as soon as possible if they want to salvage anything from this season.
Asked if Dier’s presence has been keenly felt in recent weeks, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I don’t think so, not at all.
“Eric Dier, even before he got injured, he was not at his best. He was still getting found out.
“That’s just a myth, really. If you had Eric Dier back in that defence you’re still open to getting bullied and getting outpaced. I don’t think it’s anything to do with Dier being out.

“Centre-back is his best position but he’s never going to be a top, top centre-back.
“I don’t think he’s got the agility to win the ball back as a defensive midfielder. He’s got the hunger and the strength.”
In other news, a Tottenham Insider has tipped Yaya Toure for an ‘official role’ after a Hotspur Way sighting.
