Tottenham player Brandon Austin ‘fighting to save career’ as new details emerge – Sources

Tottenham backup goalkeeper Brandon Austin is “fighting to save his career” at the club, sources have told Football Insider.

The 25-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to make a senior appearance for the club since joining in 2015.

Sources have told Football Insider (12 March) that second-choice shot-stopper Fraser Forster is set to be sidelined until mid-April.

It is believed that the veteran goalkeeper’s injury has opened the door for Austin to stake a claim for a new deal with the Lilywhites and he could be offered a new contract.

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that manager Ange Postecoglou is an admirer of Austin’s attitude and believes that he has a positive influence in Spurs’ dressing room.

Despite making no appearances for the club, he has been on the bench for seven league games this season, including in the last three games in Forster’s absence.

He has been sent out on two loan spells during his time at Spurs to MLS side Orlando City in 2021 and Danish outfit Viborg FF in 2019.

Spurs are making moves to tie down star Heung-min Son, with sources telling Football Insider (8 March) that they have opened talks with the captain and are confident he will sign a new deal.
