Tottenham news: Ex-PL CEO drops verdict on ‘fan boycott’ after shock twist
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has suggested any Tottenham boycott of replica kits will be unsuccessful despite their high price tag.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed, in a shock twist, the cheapest replica kits could hit “£100” in 2025.
Tottenham have now released their Nike home and away strips for the 2024-25 campaign – with a stadium version costing £85, and the elite version costing £125.
Spurs’ cheapest adult shirt was the joint-most expensive of any Premier League club in the 2023-24 campaign at £80 but the London club have still increased the price by £5.
Supporters have voiced their displeasure at the pricing on social media, with one claiming the club is “ripping the fans off”.
Tottenham fans won’t launch boycott of ‘rip off’ kits, says Wyness
Wyness suggested fans will allow inflation to “creep into” football because of their love for the game.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think we’ll see the £100 kit next season.
“In terms of a fan boycott, it’s been talked about at lots of different clubs over the years but it has never really been a success.
“If you’re a young kid, you want the shirt – it’s as simple as that.
“I understand it, it’s the attraction of football.
“Replica shirt culture seems to be a quite uniquely British thing to a certain degree.

“I don’t think the pricing will stop fans buying the kits. It’s the same as the price of beer, or the price of a pie going up – everything is going up in life, everywhere.
“Football tends to be the passion they will allow inflation to creep into because they are so hooked on the sport.”
