Tottenham news: Expert cites Luis Diaz in 'brilliant' £25m transfer claim after what he's seen

Noel Whelan has claimed Tottenham have “more than made up” for losing out on Luis Diaz with the “brilliant” capture of Dejan Kulusevski.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 21-year-old has had an “equally important impact” when compared to the Liverpool star.

Kulusevski recorded two assists during Sunday’s (1 May) 3-0 win over Leicester – taking his Tottenham record to three goals and eight assists in 16 games.

The Guardian (22 March) claim the London side have the option to turn the Swede’s loan move into a permanent transfer this summer for €30million (£25million).

Football Insider revealed earlier this year (2 February) that Tottenham and Porto had a signed agreement for Luis Diaz to join in a £50million late-January transfer before they were gazumped by Liverpool at the 11th hour.

Whelan hailed Spurs for bouncing back after what would have been a “real disappointment”.

“They’ve more than made up for losing out on Diaz, for me,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“They did their due diligence, listened to Conte, and got a really good deal done.

“It will have been a real disappointment to get pipped to the Diaz deal but they’ve found Kulusevski – who has had an equally important impact.

“They didn’t cry over it, they knew most players would choose Liverpool.

“But they hunkered down and chose to bring in a brilliant young player who can only get better.”

Diaz has notched five goals and three assists in 21 appearances since joining Liverpool.

Tottenham sit fifth in the Premier League with their Champions League qualification hanging in the balance.
