Tottenham news: Expert issues ‘100%’ Son Heung-min verdict as fresh details emerge – ‘incredible’

Noel Whelan has insisted “incredible” Tottenham forward Son Heung-min is “just as important as Harry Kane” after he claimed his first Golden Boot.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 29-year-old is among an elite club of “some of the best finishers in the world”.

Son confirmed his Premier League Golden Boot win on the final day of the season (22 May), claiming a brace as Tottenham beat Norwich 5-1 to seal their Champions League qualification.

The South Korea international won the accolade alongside Liverpool star Mohamed Salah – with both forwards netting 23 goals.

As per Sofascore (May 24), Son’s tally of 23 non-penalty goals is the most netted by any player across Europe’s top five leagues in the last five seasons.

The former Bayer Leverkusen man registered 0.27 goals per shot in the top flight this term – second only to Leicester star Jamie Vardy’s tally of 0.28 (per FBRef).

Whelan hailed the striker’s consistency since his arrival in England in 2015.

He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “If anyone deserves a Golden Boot, it’s Son – isn’t it?

“He’s been so consistent. Not just over this season, but over an incredible career in the Premier League.

“He’s so important to Tottenham. At times, he’s taken up the mantle and the leadership – especially when Kane wasn’t quite firing on all cylinders.

“Can you think of life without Son if you’re Spurs? Absolutely not – he’s just as important as Kane.

“His attitude and work rate is second-to-none. He’s right up there with some of the best finishers in the world, 100%.

“He’s just the all-round striker.”
