Tottenham news: Pundit suggests silver lining to Richarlison injury after latest development
Frank McAvennie has suggested a silver lining for Tottenham after Richarlison’s injury.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker insisted the 25-year-old was due a “few weeks” of rest after the World Cup.
The winger picked up a hamstring injury in the warm-up before Brazil’s quarter-final defeat to Croatia but managed to play 84 minutes before he was withdrawn.
Richarlison was not included in the squad for Spurs’ 1-1 friendly draw with Nice on Wednesday (21 December).
As quoted by football.london (20 December), Antonio Conte said the Brazilian will have a scan to discover the extent of the injury.
Richarlison has made ten league appearances for Conte’s side so far this season and has been in the starting lineup for half of those fixtures.
When asked if losing Richarlison will be a big blow to the Lilywhites, McAvennie told Football Insider: “I do not think so.
“He is due a couple of weeks rest. The scan will just be to see how bad it is. If he has just pulled his hamstring he will be fine.
“He has showed what he can do but I think he has got to do it more. Players with talent like that have got to be doing it more. That is what Conte will be wanting.
“He is a great talent and he needed a couple of weeks off anyway.“

Tottenham are currently fourth in the Premier League table, eight points behind league leaders Arsenal.
