Tottenham news: Pundit warns Antonio Conte could ‘ruin’ Spurs with this one decision

Tottenham could lose Antonio Conte if he isn’t backed during the summer transfer window.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider as Spurs lost ground in the race for the top four.

Tottenham lost 3-2 to Southampton (9 February) and 2-0 to Wolves (13 February) last week in a major blow to their hopes of securing Champions League football.

After the Wolves game, as quoted by Sky Sports, Conte admitted it is “impossible” for Spurs to finish in the top four based on their current form.

As a result, McAvennie insists Tottenham need to be concerned over potentially losing Conte, who is out of contract in June 2023, as it would “ruin” the club.

“Tottenham need to be worried about losing Conte,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“There is already talk of him leaving. People were saying if he isn’t backed in January then he could walk.

“Now it looks like finishing in the top four is going to be a real task. There are so many problems there.

“They don’t have a good squad there and they haven’t made too many improvements, for me.

“There was a big chance for them to beat two teams last week and move up the table.

“They didn’t do it because they aren’t good enough.

If Conte isn’t given assurances that he can significantly strengthen this squad in the summer then he will be gone.

“Then who do they get? That could ruin Tottenham because we know how many managers turned them down last summer.”

Spurs lie eighth in the Premier League, seven points off fourth-placed Man United.

However, the North London club have three games in hand on the Red Devils.
