Tottenham news: Robinson reveals what he really thinks of Hugo Lloris after Sky reveal

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has not “gone off the boil” and cannot be expected to perform at a world-class level every week, according to Paul Robinson.

The former White Hart Lane favourite, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the 35-year-old “could have done better” in recent weeks but insisted “it would be very harsh to criticise him.”

Lloris has been one of Tottenham’s standout players this term and was rewarded with a new deal in January.

As quoted by Sky Sports (15 March), Antonio Conte called on his goalkeeper, as well as Harry Kane and Son Heung-min to step up between now and the end of the season.

Conte explained how he needs the trio to lead from the front if Spurs are going to get back into top four contention.

When asked for his assessment of Lloris’ form, Robinson told Football Insider: “He could have done better in recent weeks but it would be very harsh to criticise him.

“In the main, he has returned to form this season. You cannot maintain that level week in, week out. As a goalkeeper, you are going to concede goals.

“Everyone is an expert on goalkeeping, as I found out through my career. There is no bigger critic of goalkeepers than themselves. You always think there is something you could have done to prevent a goal, even if it rips the top corner of the net out.

“Lloris hasn’t played particularly well of late but I wouldn’t go as far as saying he’s gone off the boil.”
