Tottenham next manager: ‘Two frontrunners’ to replace Ange Postecoglou named

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is facing increased sack pressure after elimination from the League Cup and FA Cup in the space of four days.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (10 February) that Tottenham boss Postecoglou still has the backing of the board and club chiefs – for now.

Spurs chiefs will make no knee-jerk reaction to recent results but it is clear results will have to improve in the coming weeks.

But with a mounting injury list and crucial fixtures in the Premier League and Europa League coming up, Postecoglou could succumb to the pressure even before the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has named two top contenders to replace the Australian.

Premier League duo are top contenders for Tottenham job

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted Spurs are looking at Brentford boss Thomas Frank and Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola.

The Bees and Cherries sit 11th and seventh respectively in the Premier League table and are both outperforming Tottenham and Man United despite operating on much smaller budgets.

Wyness insisted the Spurs job will have “appeal” for Frank and Iraola.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “The two names coming up really hard right now, and it’s still early days, are Thomas Frank and Andoni Iraola.

“They have done really well.

“Spurs are a big club, with the stadium, etc, so it’d be a really big temptation for both managers.

“They would be coming into what is seen as a failed season, but I think it’s down to injuries. With a fit and fresh squad, you could be seen as having great success straight away.

“Whether they can be convinced, I don’t know. Both clubs could still have European football next season, where Spurs likely won’t.

“But I think the appeal is there. I believe the board may still end up with Ange in charge for next season.”

Levy also under fire at Tottenham after January window

Tottenham have won five of their 11 games in 2025 so far but have emerged victorious in just one from five in the Premier League this year.

As well as Postecoglou, club chairman Daniel Levy has endured chanting for his departure from supporters over a perceived lack of action in the transfer market.

Tottenham made a club-record bid for Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi in January – but that move has been described by ex-Everton CEO Wyness as a “PR stunt” from Levy.

Spurs added Antonin Kinsky, Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel in the mid-season window to remedy their injury problems.
