Tottenham ‘not bothered’ about Dele Alli sell-on fee as Everton exit on the cards – pundit
Noel Whelan has insisted Tottenham are “not bothered” about recouping any money for Dele Alli ahead of a possible summer exit at Everton.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the “big thing” for Spurs was getting the 26-year-old’s wages off the books.
As reported by the Sun (17 May), Tottenham included a 25 per cent sell-on clause when they let Alli join Everton for nothing in January.

The report claims the Toffees are considering selling the attacking midfielder half a year after his arrival at Goodison Park.
The same newspaper claimed (March 2021) Alli was on £100,000-a-week at Spurs before his exit.
Whelan suggested Tottenham would be happy to have got him off the wage bill, regardless of a future transfer windfall.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “To be honest with you, at 25 per cent, they’re not bothered. They’ve got him off the wage bill.
“That’s the big factor. A player that is not contributing but still demanding £90,000-100,000-a-week or whatever frees up a lot of money for a club. It was just about getting him off the wage bill and getting him out the club.
“He wasn’t going to be a key player for them. That’s sad because there is a really good player in Dele Alli. It’s down to the player. It seems to me he’s lost that little bit of edge and that little bit of desire in his game.

“Whether he’s fallen out of love, I don’t know. Whether he’s just cruising now to the end of his career, I don’t know, but he’s still young. That’s the issue.
“I don’t understand where he’s fallen off the cliff or why, but he has. He needs to rekindle that love and desire and that edge to his game.”
