Sources: Tottenham submit verbal offer for Leandro Trossard

Tottenham have submitted a verbal offer for Brighton forward Leandro Trossard, sources have told Football Insider.

The two Premier League clubs have been in contact over a potential Trossard deal and Spurs made a verbal bid for the player.

But it is understood that Brighton knocked back the offer and have no intention of letting the 28-year-old go this month.

Trossard is out of contract at the end of season although Brighton have the option to extend it by 12 months and it has been suggested they have already done so.

He has spoken publicly in the past about joining one of the Premier League giants and has revealed he would be open to linking back up with former boss Graham Potter at Chelsea.

The west Londoners have been strongly linked with the Belgian, but it is Tottenham who are working to agree a deal.

Brighton are aware that Trossard could agree a pre-contract with an overseas club from this month.

Intriguingly, the Spurs offer comes after the attacker was omitted from the Brighton matchday squad that beat Middlesbrough 5-1 on Saturday in the Third Round of the FA Cup.

Roberto de Zerbi also chose to bench the Belgium international, for the first time this season, during their 4-0 win against Everton on Tuesday night, sparking talk that the winger could depart the Amex Stadium this January.

De Zerbi claimed after Saturday’s match that Trossard omission from the squad was due to an injury.

The forward has now made 17 appearances in all competitions for Brighton this season, scoring seven times, including an impressive hat-trick against Liverpool at Anfield in October.

Since joining Brighton in 2019 from Genk, Trossard has returned 25 goals and 14 assists in 121 appearances for the club.
