Tottenham ‘open to Ben Davies move to Leeds’ as Spurs new arrival expected

Leeds United will look to sign Tottenham defender Ben Davies to strengthen their options at the back before the 3 February transfer deadline.

That is according to former Tottenham, Man United and Sunderland scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that there is “a strong possibility” the move goes through.

This comes after former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider that the club are “well-placed” to sign Davies, 31, even if they are made to wait until the summer.

Brown, however, insisted Daniel Farke’s side will push to get a deal over the line this month as they want to strengthen their push for promotion from the Championship.

The defender’s experience at the top level is viewed as a valuable asset which they are currently lacking and could make the difference in the business end of the season.

While Tottenham are thought to be reluctant to let another defender leave amid an injury crisis in North London, they do not view Davies as a part of their long-term plans.

Leeds also boast a strong contingent of Welsh players, with Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon, Daniel James and Karl Darlow all regulars in Craig Bellamy’s squad.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that will play a part in convincing Davies to make the move, while he would be a valuable asset to Leeds.

That would be a good move for him,” he told Football Insider.

“They’ve got a strong Welsh contingent at Leeds which could help convince him to make the move, and I hear he’s a player they would like to bring in.

“From what I know at Tottenham, they don’t regard Davies as a nailed-on first-team player.

“He’s been called upon recently because of their injuries, but I don’t think he’s in their plans long-term.

“He does well when he’s called upon, can play left-back or centre-back, but I don’t think he’s regarded as that much of an important player there.

“I can see that changing if he goes to Leeds, though, he’d be an important asset there.

“He’ll give them some know-how and stability which I think they’ve lacked, and his experience will help them when things get tough towards the end of the season.

“It’s a move that makes a lot of sense to me, and I think Tottenham might be open to it as well surprisingly, especially if they can bring in a new defender.

“I think there’s a strong possibility this one gets done.”
