Tottenham plan to accept Emerson Royal offer after key development – sources
Tottenham will be forced to consider summer interest in defender Emerson Royal as they look to make signings of their own, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the 25-year-old was the subject of interest from the Saudi Pro League in January.
Royal has dropped behind Pedro Porro in the pecking order since Ange Postecoglou’s arrival despite a shaky start to life for the Spaniard at Spurs last season.
The Brazil international has made 20 appearances across all competitions in the 2023-24 campaign, with just 11 of those outings coming as part of the starting lineup.
As well as his natural right-back berth, the defender has also been used as a centre-back and left-back by Postecoglou this term.
Emerson Royal sale could ‘balance the books’ at Tottenham – summer plans underway
He joined the club from Barcelona for a reported fee of £25.7million and is under contract until June 2026.
Royal has made 97 total appearances for Tottenham but has been an unused substitute in their last three Premier League games.
Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast, O’Rourke said: “Emerson Royal had a bit of interest from Saudi Pro League sides in the January transfer window.
“Pedro Porro seems to be the clear first-choice right-back for Postecoglou and Spurs.

“If there’s any interest in Emerson this summer then Spurs will have to make a decision on his future.
“If they are going to be busy in the transfer window this summer then they’re going to have to balance the books.”
