Tottenham player ratings v Chelsea: Senior player 5/10 despite historic win

COMMENT

Tottenham had a huge boost in their bid to qualify for Champions League football next season with a brilliant comeback against Chelsea to win 3-1 at Stamford Bridge on Easter Sunday.

Alvaro Morata’s header looked to be setting Spurs on their way to a disappointing London derby loss but a Christian Eriksen wonder-goal and Dele Alli brace was enough to earn Mauricio Pochettino and his men all three points.

Hugo Lloris was tested a few times in the opening encounters and eventually the France international made a fatal error when he came out to claim a Victor Moses cross, missing the ball to allow Morata to head into a pretty much empty net.

Just before half-time Spurs were level when Eriksen’s wonder-strike from outside the box dipped past a helpless Willy Caballero.

It was clearly the perfect way to inspire an incredible second-half performance which saw Pochettino’s men turn the game on it’s head.

Eric Dier’s long ball found Alli charging into the Chelsea box in the 62nd minute, leaving the England international to bring the ball down with an impeccable first touch before slotting the ball in the net via the post.

Four minutes later, Heung-min Son’s marauding run down the right led to a goal-mouth scramble which was eventually finished off by Alli to put Spurs 3-1 ahead.

That historic win leaves Tottenham fourth in the table and eight points clear of fifth-placed Chelsea.

It was the first time in 28 years that the North London club has walked away from Stamford Bridge with a win.
