Tottenham player ratings v Southampton: Senior man fluffs his lines
By Editor Wayne Veysey
Football Insider rates the Tottenham players in their 4-1 win against Southampton in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
Hugo Lloris 5 – Appeared to be wrongfooted for the Van Dijk goal and had little to do after Southampton’s early assault. The senior man was one of the few Spurs to fluff his lines.
Kyle Walker 7 – Provided pace and purpose on the right flank and was key to Tottenham gaining a foothold in the game.
Eric Dier 6 – Jittery and nervous early on but settled once the visitors got into the game.
Jan Vertonghen 7 – Authoritative and commanding but never quite as good when Toby Alderweireld is not mopping up alongside him.

Danny Rose 8 – Maintained his purple patch with another display brimming with adventure and energy.
Victor Wanyama 7 – Solid, controlled and disciplined, he foraged, intercepted, tackled and used the ball sensibly.
Mousa Dembele 9 – Oozed class and composure in a display that laid the foundations for the comeback. Withdrawn after 81 minutes.
Christian Eriksen 7 – Not at his absolute best but produced some delightful touches, slammed the crossbar with one second half shot and delivered a stunning pass for the match-sealing goal by Son.
Moussa Sissoko 7 – More performances like this and the £30million summer signing will win around a sceptical Spurs fanbase. Set up the opener and delivered a lovely through ball to Alli to win the penalty.
Dele Alli 9 – The best player on the pitch. His link-up play was excellent, started and rounded off the revival with brilliant finishes and won the penalty that was blazed over by Harry Kane.
Harry Kane 7 – Led the line with aplomb and put his side ahead with a brilliantly directed header direct from a corner. But loses a mark with his penalty that skied embarrassingly miles over the bar.
Son Heung-Min (for Sissoko 73mins) – 7
Harry Winks (for Dembele 81mins) – 6
Vincent Janssen (for Kane 88mins) – 6
