Tottenham players ‘deeply upset’ over Postecoglou sack amid club denial
Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham sacking has caused uproar and confusion among members of Spurs’ playing squad.
Postecoglou was hired by Tottenham in 2023 with the goal of finally delivering the club a major trophy, and despite doing so in his second season with a Europa League triumph, he was relieved of his duties earlier this month due to their poor Premier League performances.
Football Insider revealed on 1 June that chairman Daniel Levy was set to sack Postecoglou, and Spurs made their official announcement of his departure five days later following “a review of performances and after significant reflection,” to the dismay of the majority of supporters.
Brentford boss Thomas Frank was appointed as his successor on Thursday (12 June), but the situation has left a sour taste in the mouths of some Spurs players, too, who seemingly felt like the Australian head-coach should have been given more time in the job after their trophy win.

Tottenham players in disarray after Postecoglou sacking as club deny social media revelation
Spurs centre-back Micky van de Ven criticised Postecoglou’s sacking in a recent interview, while Yves Bissouma made his feelings on the decision clear with an emotional message in support of his former boss after his exit was confirmed, and Spanish international Pedro Porro did similar.
Despite Frank’s subsequent appointment, The Athletic have now also revealed that some members of Tottenham’s first-team squad remain “deeply upset” at Postecoglou’s exit.
The same report claims that a number of the playing squad found out about the decision through social media on 6 June, rather than through a prior in-house announcement, but Spurs continue to deny that is the case.

Postecoglou will return to football soon following Spurs success
Football Insider verdict
Numerous Spurs players and many fans clearly believe that Postecoglou had built some credit in the bank for finally delivering a trophy to a club that had been starved of success for too long considering their size, despite their poor 17th-placed league finish.
With that said, his exit from the North London club may have actually helped boost his future job prospects, where another poor domestic campaign would have likely seen him sacked mid-season and at a lower ebb in his managerial career.

Instead he has left the club on a high, and teams that could potentially be interested in hiring him next will have the image of him holding the Europa League trophy aloft fresh in their minds.
The Australian head-coach has already been touted for another role abroad in the immediate aftermath of his Lilywhites departure, with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli claimed to be interested in bringing Postecoglou amid speculation that German boss Matthias Jaissle could soon leave.
Postecoglou has won silverware nearly everywhere he has been, with trophies in his native Australia, Japan and also numerous league and cup titles in his time at Celtic to add to his Europa League victory.
He is a serial winner, and that kind of pedigree is sure to appeal to clubs across Europe and the wider footballing world who could see him as their next boss, so it would come as little surprise to see him land a new job as soon, if he is interested in taking one so soon after his Spurs exit.
