Harry Winks is in a battle for fitness ahead of Tottenham’s clash against Leicester at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night, it has been confirmed.

Spurs announced on their official Twitter account on Monday that Winks, 21, is facing a late assessment ahead of the Premier League fixture after being hit with an illness.

The North London club also confirmed that the senior duo of Toby Alderweireld and Victor Waynama are also ruled out of the midweek trip to the East Midlands.

Winks has been in top form since establishing himself in the Spurs first-team this season, but the young playmaker was far from his best on Saturday when West Brom held Mauricio Pochettino’s men to a 1-1 draw at Wembley.

Spurs can plummet down the table if they fail to respond with a win against Leicester on Tuesday as they are now just three points clear of eighth-placed Watford.

Although Pochettino has the strength in depth, it would be a bit of a blow to his selection should Winks be ruled out of contention to play against the Foxes, especially as they look for a reaction to being unable to beat managerless West Brom.

Winks has made 16 appearances across all competitions this season, getting more senior squad action that he would have anticipated a few months ago.

However injuries to Wanyama and Mousa Dembele have certainly helped him in establishing himself on the teamsheet.

In other Tottenham news, a BBC pundit has blasted this Spurs senior man for his comments on the West Brom draw.
